iCleaner Pro

iCleaner goes PRO!: if you are an advanced user, and wish to have full control over your device, then use one of the following methods to download iCleaner Pro!

NOTE: please uninstall "iCleaner" before installing "iCleaner Pro". If you don't, you will end up having two iCleaner icons, or just a non-working one. In that case, please respring your device.

Method 1: add my new Cydia repository and download it from there:

http://exile90software.com/cydia

Method 2:
  • Uninstall "iCleaner" via Cydia, if you have it on your device.
  • Download the .deb file from one of the links below:

    iCleaner Pro 7.2.2 - LINK 1

    iCleaner Pro 7.2.2 - LINK 2

  • Select "Open in iFile" (requires iFile to be installed), then tap on "Installer".
  • Once it has finished installing, respring your device to see the icon on the SpringBoard. If, after a respring, the icon is still not there, please reboot your device.

Note: This method will not automatically install the needed dependencies. Therefore, please make sure the following packages are installed on Cydia prior to installing the .deb:
  • APT 0.6 Transitional (apt)
  • shell-cmds (shell-cmds)

Please note that, depending on your Cydia version, you may have to enable the "developer" setting in order to be able to manually install them.

There has been a lot going on about iCleaner recently. It evolved from a simple system cleaner, to a complete suite of tools that allow users to have full control upon their devices. This great control iCleaner offers, however, has been misused in ways I did not foresee.

Basically, it has lead to some major issues:
  • Some users were not happy, because they disabled some daemons they actually needed, MobileSubstrate addons required for other tweaks to work correctly, deleted images blindly without even reading the readme file and understanding how removal tools should be used.
  • Some users actually sent support requests to devs and repo maintainers, reporting some of their tweaks were not working correctly and they didn't know why. When they were asked if they used iCleaner to disable Launch Daemons or MobileSubstrate tweaks, they replied they did not know what they did.
  • Some users even restored their devices, without being aware that the changes they made were entirely reversible.

I was contacted by the BigBoss' repo maintainer, who was concerned about iCleaner becoming a threat for user experience and unfair towards other developers. All I can say is that he is definitely right, not because of the features offered by the app itself, but because of the incorrect usage people were making of it.

Therefore, I agreed to remove the most misused functions (MobileSubstrate and Launch Daemons management being the most relevant) from the package hosted on BigBoss'. This way, such functionality will be kept away from the vast majority of uninformed users. Version 6.3.0 also features a button to undo the changes made to Launch Daemons and MobileSubstrate addons.

The very same thing happened to other developers offering similar functions (Springtomize, for example), and I'm afraid iCleaner is no exception.

Introducing 'iCleaner Pro'

I still believe there are a lot of savvy and advanced users who might want to make use of those functions. Because of that, I decided to release a "Pro" version of iCleaner, that will not be distributed on any community source. It features all the functions iCleaner had before, plus a nice amount of new tools. And, of course, it's still free!

So, in the end, there are no steps back being done. Just two separate releases for two separate types of users.

You can download "iCleaner Pro" from my new repository, or from one of the provided download links.

Enjoy!

  3. why all developers have the same mindset and understanding like you. Your understanding of the situation and taking it in the right spirit shows how good dev you are.

keep up the good work and good choice (for splitting the apps)

    2. Thank you so much for a great tool, and not removing (entirely) my favorite feature, or charging for it. I am flabbergasted by the fact that you're willing to maintain 2 versions just for us power users. Thank you!!

  10. Is it possible you could add more daemons that could be removed. And also a feature to remove unused ringtones which take up space. Check this link out for more info

    1. iCleaner will always be free and ad-supported. But, I'll probably allow the user to purchase a license to remove the ads in future versions of the app. No eta though.

    1. Version 7.0.0 will be even more efficient, I'm completely rewriting it and the first tests are very promising!

And, Weibo is a popular Chinese social network. That daemon has no use for people outside of China.

    2. Thanks a lot!
But i will stay with that. Or maybe wait until 7.x.x to fix all the unavoidable bugs as far as 6.3.3 is now trustable.

  16. I have to thank you, you are an incredible developer. This program is absolutely astonishing, and the thought between separating iCleaner and iCleaner PRO is good. I first thought that I was going to have to pay to get rid of my daemons, but I was just so joyed to find out I can still get the same features free.

I've never donated to anyone, but I'm very seriously considering it. I should probably go and make a paypal for myself

  18. Do you think you'd ever work on a PC/Mac Version where you can just plug it into the computer and have more control from there maybe over some of the parts and have it detect jailbroke or non jailbroke and offer cleaning features based on that? I figure that would be a wonderful app extension IDE love to use. - Damion Savage

    1. I was actually thinking about this, especially to extend the iCleaner capabilities to non-jailbroken devices. This might happen in the future, if I manage to find the time to work on it :)

  20. Just downloaded and ran Version 7.0.1. My "Other" space was at 10GB before running the program. Now "Other" is 2.75GB. What?! Awesome. My iPhone 5 (6.1) did freeze a couple times after running iCleaner. Coincidence? Does 7.0.1 disable any daemons or anything I might need?

    Thanks so much.

    1. Version 7.0.2 is out, by the way :)

And yeah, quite possibly a coincidence. Try rebooting your device, sometimes you need more than just a respring (especially after freeing up that much space).

And no, no daemons are disabled unless you manually disable them.

    1. Hello,

I currently have no plan to create a Windows Phone app. This may change in the future, as I'm currently thinking about building an Android app.
